Back in the 1970s, ‘enfant terrible’ of Dutch photography Ed van der Elsken (1925 – 1990) dove into his extensive archive of images of Amsterdam to compile a book called Amsterdam! Atmospheric images of the fifties, the riots during the turbulent sixties, people, architecture and degradation in the old city centre – they resulted in an unique document of the city in which Van der Elsken had always lived. Now the book has been re-issued, including new scans from the original negative.
